First Speckle Interferometry at SOAR Telescope with Electron-Multiplication CCD
A simple camera with electron-multiplication CCD, fast frame rate, and apixel scale of 15mas is described. This instrument was tested at theSOAR 4-m telescope in the speckle-interferometry regime. The data wereprocessed by the standard speckle algorithm permitting derivation ofbinary-star parameters. We observed 29 objects with separations from21mas to 1.32, mostly southern binaries with known orbits. Some pairsrequire orbit revision. Two spectroscopic binaries HIP9631 and HIP11072and the astrometric binary For are resolved for the first time, whilethree objects were unresolved.

CCD Speckle Observations of Binary Stars from the Southern Hemisphere. IV. Measures during 2001
We present 549 observations of 181 primarily southern binary stars. Ofthese, 32 are high-quality nondetections, meaning that, if binary, thesystem had a separation below the diffraction limit at the time of theobservation, and relative astrometry is presented for the remaining 517observations. In addition, a magnitude difference measure is reported in312 cases in which the observation was judged to be of sufficientquality to have little decorrelation of the speckle pattern of thesecondary relative to the primary star. These data were obtained fromspeckle observations taken at the Lowell-Tololo 0.6 m telescope at CerroTololo Inter-American Observatory using a fast-readout CCD detectorduring 2001 November. Results from an astrometric measurement precisionstudy indicate that the measures have typical uncertainties of12.2+/-1.4 mas in separation and 1.28d+/-0.21d in position angle withlittle systematic error. The magnitude differences presented show goodagreement with values in the Hipparcos catalog where comparisons can bemade. Their uncertainties are also characterized; they show a typicalvalue of 0.18 mag per 2 minute observation. Four systems of particularinterest are discussed.

Kinematics of Hipparcos Visual Binaries. II. Stars with Ground-Based Orbital Solutions
This paper continues kinematical investigations of the Hipparcos visualbinaries with known orbits. A sample, consisting of 804 binary systemswith orbital elements determined from ground-based observations, isselected. The mean relative error of their parallaxes is about 12% andthe mean relative error of proper motions is about 4%. However, even 41%of the sample stars lack radial velocity measurements. The computedGalactic velocity components and other kinematical parameters are usedto divide the stars with known radial velocities into kinematical agegroups. The majority (92%) of binaries from the sample are thin diskstars, 7.6% have thick disk kinematics and only two binaries have halokinematics. Among them, the long-period variable Mira Ceti has a verydiscordant {Hipparcos} and ground-based parallax values. From the wholesample, 60 stars are ascribed to the thick disk and halo population. There is an urgent need to increase the number of the identified halobinaries with known orbits and substantially improve the situation withradial velocity data for stars with known orbits.

Two-colour photometry for 9473 components of close Hipparcos double and multiple stars
Using observations obtained with the Tycho instrument of the ESAHipparcos satellite, a two-colour photometry is produced for componentsof more than 7 000 Hipparcos double and multiple stars with angularseparations 0.1 to 2.5 arcsec. We publish 9473 components of 5173systems with separations above 0.3 arcsec. The majority of them did nothave Tycho photometry in the Hipparcos catalogue. The magnitudes arederived in the Tycho B_T and V_T passbands, similar to the Johnsonpassbands. Photometrically resolved components of the binaries withstatistically significant trigonometric parallaxes can be put on an HRdiagram, the majority of them for the first time. Based on observationsmade with the ESA Hipparcos satellite.

ICCD speckle observations of binary stars. VIII - Measurements during 1989-1991 from the Cerro Tololo 4 M telescope
One-thousand eighty-eight observations of 947 binary star systems, observed by means of speckle interferometry with the 4 m telescope onCerro Tololo, are presented. These measurements, made during the period1989-1991, comprise the second installment of results stemming from theexpansion of our speckle program to the southern hemisphere.

Observations of double stars and new pairs. XV
The study reports visual and photographic measures listed for 1150 pairsobtained in the time frame 1989.91-1992.15, including 221 new doublestars. Magnitudes were estimated for a part of the objects, especiallythe fainter ones. Plate orientations were calculated from field stars ofknown positions and were precessed to the epoch; numbers of nights andof measured exposures are given. Reobservation of faint, neglected pairsreveal many corrections to the data from the old discovery lists.

Micrometric measurements of visual binaries (5th list)
The data resulting from 596 micrometric measurements of 152 binaries areset forth which represent observations taken on the GPO astrograph(described by Scardia, 1990). The traditional declination method is usedto track star position, and some of the measurements are related toprevious work by the author (1990). The data given include O-Cmeasurements corresponding to the Worley and Heintz catalogue (1984) andother relevant data.
