The occultation of gamma Geminorum by the asteroid 381 Myrrha The occultation of Gamma Geminorum by asteroid 381 Myrrha on January 13,1991, observed in Japan and China, was the brightest event ever seen ofa stellar occultation by an asteroid. By the analysis of the timing dataof this event measured in Japan, it is shown that the cross section ofMyrrha is well fitted with an ellipse of (147.2 +/- 2.4) km x (126.6 +/-7.9) km. An upper limit of the diameter of Gamma Geminorum is alsoestimated to be 2.6 milliarcsec. The companion of Gamma Geminorum ofabout 7.5 mag was sited at separation (64 +/- 8) milliarcsec in thedirection P = 129 deg +/- 59 deg, and the relative position of Myrrha toGamma Geminorum was determined to an accuracy of about 1 milliarcsec.Direct constraints on Myrrha's 3D shape and the direction of itsrotation axis are obtained on the assumption of it being a triaxialellipsoid with isotropic orientation.
